About the Leisure Dive

Q : What is LeisureDive.com?

A website dedicated to the leisure dive and the attitude that surrounds it.

The leisure dive speaks to a person who is extreme and yet, relaxed. Someone who — by definition — likes to jump off things and just chill. The irony is not lost on us. We think it’s brilliant.

Q : What is a leisure dive?

A leisure dive is a jump into a body of water (or at least something soft), striking a ‘leisure pose’ in mid-air. Ideally, a photographer captures the moment when the diver has reached peak height above water, when his or her hips are parallel to the waterline. If successful, the result is an airborne Corona commercial you can post to your preferred social networking platform, or mantle, if you’re old school.

Oh, and Leisure Dives are actual dives, not superimposed images. That would be so much less cool.

Q : What is a leisure pose?

While each diver is encouraged to express his or her own leisure persona through their own unique leisure pose, some common themes exist:

  • One raised elbow
  • A killer leisure face
  • An item that indicates leisurely attitude (in your non-raised elbow hand). Some acceptable items include:
    • Red Stripe
    • White Russian
    • Paperback novel
    • Croquet mallet

But don’t feel constrained. Lining up a putt, brilliant! Strumming a ukulele, super! We encourage you to find that leisurely place all your own.

Q : What is the leisure face?

A facial expressions that says, ‘I am just relaxing and enjoying this refreshing cocktail’. Not a smile, not blue steel. Just straight leisure. Most divers find this to be the most difficult technical aspect of the leisure dive.

Q : Is this as stupid as it sounds?

Yes, perhaps more. We’re very excited about it.

Q : How does this work?

Very simple. Send us your best leisure dives via the submit form.

We’ll post the dives that have the right combination of creativity, popped elbows, leisure face, scenery, humor, and leisurely body language.

Your photo (if chosen) will be posted to our Daily Dives blog where users can like your dive, which will in effect rank yours against others. We’ll feature several dives daily, and will compile the most “liked” dives into our Top Dives gallery (1,000,000 page views and counting). End up there, you’ll be slightly famous and very popular at pool parties.

That’s it. We’re thrilled to see so many people enjoying the dive, and hope it continues all summer long. And its always summer somewhere.

Live and let dive,
